Coastal fieldtripContextual informationThis class of year 9 students from a large government co-educational school in metropolitan Melbourne embarked on their first geography fieldtrip for the year. The fieldtrip topic was Coasts and it took place very early in the year and along the Victorian coastline of Port Phillip Bay and later that day the ocean beaches of the Mornington Peninsula. This field work was the first ‘real’ geography field work the students had been involved in. During the field trip, the teacher encourages the students to concentrate on coastal processes that have been studied previously in class. Students are involved in observing and recording; they spend some time describing what they are observing and drawing field sketches. It was intended that a field work booklet be completed during the day and handed in before the students returned to school. 1. Lesson Summary: Key Lesson events.
